Eric J. Clarke
After attending Towson State College (now Towson University) in Maryland, Eric moved briefly to Mississippi to gain valuable sales experience in the family specialty wood business. After returning to Maryland in 1975, he settled north of Baltimore and began his insurance career with The Prudential, selling exclusively Prudential products. He worked his way up from agent to manager in just a few brief years, relocating to the suburbs of Washington, DC when he was promoted. Eric remained with Prudential for a total of 10 years. By the mid-80’s there were wide-sweeping changes in the insurance markets and he decided the best way to serve the long term needs of his clients was to become an independent agent. It was then that he joined his wife, Linda, as co-owner of Clarke Insurance Agency which was headquartered in Silver Spring, Maryland. After moving with his family to Southern Maryland in 1987, the agency was relocated to La Plata and renamed Tidewater Benefits.
Eric specializes in life, individual and small group health, long-term care, long-term disability, senior and annuity products.
Linda G. Clarke
Linda attended Kalamazoo College in Michigan before relocating in 1977 to the Maryland suburbs of Washington, DC. She started her insurance career as an agent for The Prudential, choosing to specialize in small and large group insurance. In 1983, she left The Prudential to start an independent agency, Clarke Insurance Agency, so she would be able to offer her clients products from many carriers. Her husband, Eric, joined her as co-owner of the business in 1985 giving Linda the opportunity to fulfill some career goals outside of the family agency. Over the next 15 years, Linda kept her hand in Clarke Insurance Agency while gaining invaluable experience as a benefits specialist, brokerage manager & group insurance sales executive. In 1987, Linda and her family moved to Southern Maryland and the agency was renamed Tidewater Benefits. She returned full-time to Tidewater Benefits in 2000.
Linda works with our larger group accounts, is a self-funding specialist and manages the agency.
